Curriculum

Radiation safety, knowing the facts.
No, radiation will not turn you into the Incredible Hulk, or make you glow. It can be intimidating though, if not properly understood. Unlike other hazards dealt with daily, radiation cannot be seen, smelt or tasted. Through our 8 hour First Responder Radiation Safety Training, we provide lectures, open discussions, and hands on practicals delivered by our Certified Health Physicists, to equip you with the proper knowledge and understanding of what radiation is, isotope identification, different meter types, and interpretation of radiation readings, allowing you to safely and securely mitigate these types of hazardous incidents.

Learning Objectives

1. The participant will understand the sources of radiation and radioactive material in the environment.
2. The participant will recognize the health risks and hazards associated with radiation and methods of protecting yourself and others from those risk and hazards.
3. The participant will be able to perform a radiation survey and located radioactive material using common survey instruments and understand the effects of shielding and its impact on the ability to locate radioactive material.
